MODG Medical Recruitment Assistance Program

Criteria to Qualify

  • Program shall be applicable to recruitment of both doctors and nurses at Guysborough Memorial Hospital and Eastern Memorial Hospital (Canso) as well as nurses at both Milford Haven Home for Special Care and Canso Seaside Manor.
  • Program shall be in effect for fiscal years 2019/2020 and 2020/2021.
  • Maximum Funding available in 2019/2020 will be $30,000 for each of the two hospitals in the Municipality.
  • Maximum funding available in 2020/2021 will be $20,000 for each of the two hospitals in the Municipality.
  • Maximum funding available in 2019/2020 will be for one (1) position for each of the two nursing homes up to a maximum of $10,000 per facility.
  • Maximum funding available in 2020/2021 will be for one (1) position for each of the two nursing homes up to a maximum of $10,000 per facility.
  • This program does not apply to nurses moving from Milford Haven or Canso Seaside nursing homes to either of the two hospitals nor does it include nurses transferring from one home to the other. 
  • Program shall only apply to doctors or nurses that qualify for the Provincial recruitment incentive program with the exception of new graduation nurses and nurse recruitment for the nursing homes.
  • The funding under the MODG Medical Recruitment Assistance Program for the two hospitals shall be equal to the funding provided under the Nova Scotia Health Authority Recruitment Incentive Program to a maximum  of $10,000 per qualified applicant.
  • New graduating nurses who do not qualify for the Nova Scotia Health Authority Recruitment Incentive Program at hospitals may be eligible to receive a $2,500 grant under the MODG Medical Recruitment Assistance Program.  In addition, new graduating nurses may qualify for an incentive up to a maximum of $10,000 at one of the nursing homes.
  • Doctors or nurses receiving recruitment assistance from MODG must sign a minimum of a 2 year contract with the Nova Scotia Health Authority or the nursing home.  If the term is not completed, the recipient would be required to repay any incentive funding received.
  • This Program shall be in addition to any and all Provincial incentive programs.
