Paul Long comes to the MODG council table as first-time Councillor, but with a wealth of experience. Paul is a lifelong resident of Guysborough, having served as a volunteer for many community-based organizations. Paul graduated from Acadia University with a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Education degree in 1982, and a Masters in Guidance in 2005, and spent 32 years as teacher, guidance councillor and school administrator in the Guysborough District School Board and the Strait Regional School Board. During this time, Paul taught in Canso and Sherbrooke before arriving back at his home community of Guysborough where he finished his educational career as principal of Chedabucto Education Centre / Guysborough Academy.
Throughout his school career, Paul was an active volunteer coach and league coordinator for many different school sports. His passion for delivering quality programming for students led him to a long-time involvement with the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation, where he served as District Coordinator and Regional Director for the Northumberland Region, completing his involvement with the NSSAF as chair of the Board of Governors.
As a long time, volunteer in the Guysborough area, Paul has been Chair of many organizations such as the Guysborough Waterfront Development Society, Guysborough Amateur Athletic Association, St. Ann’s Parish Council, Guysborough Health Care Committee and a long-time volunteer with the Stan Rogers Folk Festival accommodations committee. Paul has served on previous MODG committees, including the Land Zoning committee, Chedabucto Lifestyle Complex planning committee and as the MODG representative on the Strait of Canso Superport Corporation.
Paul lives in Guysborough with his wife Maureen and hopes to be an active council member, with the intent of bringing his community and administrative experience to the table. Paul intends to bring forward a positive community perspective in the delivery of municipal services and initiatives.
