The Municipality of the District of Guysborough (MODG) is seeking an executive to join the senior management team and become the lead for the Municipality on an unprecedented volume of economic development opportunities currently happening in MODG. These opportunities include a Spaceport, gold mine, tidewater aggregate quarries, onshore wind developments, green hydrogen sector developments, a Renewable Energy Park, a container terminal, and the offshore wind sector. The successful candidate will also assist with the management of the Municipality's own renewable projects including operation of the Sable Windfarm.
The Director of Economic and Community Development will manage strategic land holdings that have been zoned for industrial development and will work closely with the Provincial and Federal Governments to promote continued development interest in MODG. This position also involves continuous engagement with project development executives, residents of MODG, and numerous other stakeholders to attract and advance projects through permitting, design, construction and operational phases of development.
The preferred candidate will have a thorough understanding of the evolving energy industry in Nova Scotia and have strong demonstrated economic and business acumen. A strong record and history of community engagement would be considered an asset as the successful candidate will be the MODG representative on all project Community Liaison Committees, requiring attendance at evening meetings. The position will continue to work with prospective developers to negotiate Community Benefits Agreements and participate in committees to manage the agreements in the development and operational phases of each development. A background in business or community development, engineering, or some combination of experience preferably in the renewable energy or construction sector is preferred.
