Centred at our two well-equipped rural hospitals, the District of Guysborough offers quality primary care and specialty health services. In the shiretown, Guysborough Memorial Hospital features:
- 10 acute-care beds
- 24-hour emergency services, core diagnostic services (including laboratory, x-ray and EKG)
- diabetes education centre; palliative care; physiotherapy; occupational therapy; foot care clinic; social work; mental health and addiction services; public health and continuing care services
- Visiting clinics for pediatrics and surgical consults
In Canso, Eastern Memorial Hospital features:
- 6 acute-care beds
- emergency services, core diagnostic services (including laboratory, x-ray and EKG)
- diabetes education centre; palliative care; physiotherapy; occupational therapy; foot care clinic; social work; mental health and addiction services; public health and continuing care services
Modern Health Services Centre
Doctors’ offices and several other services in Guysborough are located in the Dr. Anita Foley Health Services Centre. This impressive addition to the local hospital was opened in 2016, following a very successful community fundraising initiative. The centre is named for the late Dr. Anita Foley, in honour of her 40 years of medical service to the people of Guysborough and area.
Homes for Special Care
The municipality is home to two long-term care facilities, each attached to a local hospital: Milford Haven Home for Special Care in Guysborough and Seaside Manor in Canso.
