How to Get Here

The District of Guysborough borders Antigonish County to the North, the Strait of Canso to the East, the Atlantic Ocean to the south and southeast, and the St. Mary’s municipal district (also part of Guysborough County) to the west. The District covers an area of 2,116.4 square kilometres.

Heading east or west on the TransCanada Highway 104, take Exit 37 at Monastery. After completing the off ramps, turn left towards Monastery and travel for about two kilometres until you reach the intersection and the beginning of Highway 16. Don't cross the railway tracks or you have gone too far. Now enjoy the scenic drive along Highway 16 into the Municipality with the shiretown of Guysborough approximately 25 minutes away.

In Aulds Cove, you can access Highway 344 directly across from the Irving Big Stop. This route will take you through the Town of Mulgrave and then follow along the shores of the Strait of Canso. Highway 344, after approximately 30 minutes will intersect with Highway 16 at Boylston.

Along Highway 7 (Marine Drive) through Goshen and Giant's Lake to the intersection with the South River Lake Road also brings you into the District.

The nearest airports are at Halifax (Stanfield International) and Sydney in Cape Breton.  Halifax is about a three hour drive and Sydney closer to two.
