Spring has officially come to an end, and before the summer evenings begin, we have been reflecting on what makes Monday nights at the Steve Smith Soccer Turf so special.
The turf becomes more than just a field, it becomes a gathering place. With five age divisions playing soccer and learning new skills, the evening is filled with energy, laughter, and community connection. Younger siblings crash the obstacle courses, parents catch up and chat together, families spend time outdoors, and many track their steps along the walking track while still watching their child play the game.
Staff recently connected with one family whose children are not quite old enough to play soccer yet, but they still come down to enjoy the atmosphere, the space, and the opportunity for their toddlers to run around and be part of the community. We love that.
The Guysborough United Soccer Club and Guysborough County Minor Softball Association continue to thrive thanks to the incredible dedication of our youth, volunteers, coaches, parents, and supporters. We see young people stepping up to help, and families giving their time to ensure local sport continues to grow. This commitment does not go unnoticed. Congratulations to both of these incredible clubs for all the work they do.
While soccer is happening, there is often a softball game or practice taking place, and the cheers from the field are a reminder of the excitement and community spirit that sport brings.
This season, we are proud to share that 95 youth are registered in soccer and 120 athletes are registered in softball across 8 age divisions, from U5 to U17AA.
These successful clubs continue to grow because of the people who show up, support one another, and help make these evenings possible. The memories being created go far beyond the game.
