With Summer Day Camps set to begin on July 6th, our Recreation Department is proud to recognize the dedication and preparation of this year's Recreation Student Leaders.
On July 2nd, approximately 100 student leaders from across the Highland Region gathered at St. Francis Xavier University for the annual Highland Region Recreation Leadership Camp. The day provided an opportunity for participants to strengthen their leadership skills, build new connections, and gain practical experience that will support them throughout the summer recreation season.
Through interactive workshops, team-building activities, communication and inclusion training, and hands-on leadership exercises, students explored what it means to create safe, welcoming, and engaging environments for children and youth. Participants also discussed real-life scenarios, learned strategies for working as a team, and developed confidence in their ability to lead activities and support campers.
The leadership camp is an important part of preparing student leaders for the summer ahead. The skills and experiences gained throughout the day will help ensure that children attending camps across the municipality enjoy positive, meaningful, and memorable experiences.
The Municipality's 2026 Free Mobile Summer Day Camps will run from July 6th through August 21st, offering a variety of activities and opportunities for children to learn, play, and connect with others in their communities.
We are excited to see these young leaders put their training into action and make a positive impact in communities throughout MODG this summer.
