Municipal staff had the opportunity to attend the Volunteer Fair on May 26th at Chedabucto Education Centre/Guysborough Academy, hosted at the Afrikan Canadian Heritage Friendship Centre. The fair was organized by the Community-Based Learning class.
Various organizations were on site sharing information and insight with students about the importance of volunteering, how it supports our local communities, and the many ways young people can get involved themselves.
Students also had the opportunity to learn more about the Municipality’s new equity plan, Belonging Begins Here: MODG’s Path to Equity. We are currently seeking youth voices and feedback to help shape this important work and ensure young people are represented in building a more inclusive and welcoming community for all.
Our Director of Emergency Services, Kelsey Reece, was also there speaking with students about volunteer opportunities in fire services across the districts.
Thank you to all the students who stopped by to learn more about volunteer opportunities and community involvement, your interest and enthusiasm for giving back is inspiring!
Volunteers play an important role in helping build strong, connected, and resilient communities, and it was great to see so many students eager to learn more.
