Education

Modern P-12 Schools

Two excellent public schools serve the needs of families living in our District. In Guysborough, Chedabucto Education Centre serves students from Primary to Grade 8. In the same complex is Guysborough Academy for grades 9-12. Fanning Education Centre / Canso Academy in Hazel Hill offers P-12 education in the eastern end of the District.

Conseil Scolaire Acadien Provincial

The Conseil scolaire acadien provincial (CSAP) is the only French-language school board in Nova Scotia. He is responsible for the French as a First Language instruction in the educational programs of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and also teaches the English as a First Language curriculum in all schools in the province.

École à Torbé is the only French first language school in the District and is located next to the Larry's River Community Centre with Pre-Primary - Grade 9 currently being offered.

Quality University and college Education

On our doorstep in Antigonish is Saint Francis Xavier University, one of the best undergraduate universities in Canada. Nova Scotia Community College campuses are nearby as well, with the Strait Campus and Nautical Institute just across the Canso Causeway in Port Hawkesbury.

Mr. Ward worked in the banking industry in Canada and the United States before retiring to Guysborough County in 1958. A prolific reader, he provided a generous bequest to the Municipality to construct the library building.
