The Municipality of the District of Guysborough (MODG), in conjunction with the Municipality of the District of St. Mary’s and the Town of Mulgrave, is currently accepting applications for the position of Director of Emergency Services. This is a permanent, full-time role with a condensed four-day work week (Monday–Thursday or Tuesday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.). Evening and weekend engagement, along with travel, will be required. Also, as mentioned, this position will work directly with our neighbouring Municipalities in the Municipality of the District of St. Mary’s and the Town of Mulgrave as we transition to a Regional Emergency Management Organization (REMO) approach for the County.
This newly created senior leadership role reports to the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer of MODG and is a strategic addition to MODG’s management team as well as our REMO. The Director will lead the development and implementation of emergency management across the County and fire services initiatives within the Municipality. The role will strengthen emergency preparedness and guide long-term planning in these critical service areas.

Responsibilities include incident command during emergencies, strategic planning, training coordination, public outreach, and enhancing preparedness across the County. The ideal candidate will have a background and training specific to emergency management and/or fire service leadership and have acted in those roles, with at least 10 years of leadership experience, strong communication and relationship-building skills, and a solid understanding of Nova Scotia’s emergency response landscape. Experience in project management, budgeting, community engagement, and volunteer coordination is essential.
