Summer Student Employment Opportunity

The Municipality of the District of Guysborough is currently accepting applications for the following summer student positions:

Public Works General Labourer - Student Position– 1 opening (16 weeks)

This student will be directly responsible to the Director and Supervisor of the Public Works Department in carrying out maintenance, mowing, painting, property cleanup and general labour, as well as any other duties as they may be assigned. This position will require experience in the above and the ability to follow direction efficiently. The ideal applicant for this position must be extremely reliable and able to work under minimum supervision.

This position falls under the four-day work week schedule, therefore the normal working hours for this position will either be Monday to Thursday or Tuesday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (to be determined) and the rate of pay is $15.50/hr. The anticipated start date is Monday, May 15th, 2023. Applicants must be returning to studies in September 2024 to be eligible for this position. Community Information Officer - Student Position– 2 openings (12 weeks)

Students will be directly responsible to the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer and will be working with the local fire departments.  Successful applicants will be performing data entry related to fire service equipment, testing records, personnel, pre-incident plans, etc. into an online records management system, FireQ.  This position will require strong communication skills, enhanced computer/IT/Tablet capabilities, and a strong knowledge of the Municipality and of the fire service, would be considered a benefit for this position.  Availability of personal transportation would be considered an asset.

The normal hours of operation are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday to Friday (35 hours per week) and the rate of pay is $17.00/hr. The anticipated start date for the Community Information Officer position is Tuesday, June 6th, 2023. Applicants must be returning to studies in September 2023 to be eligible for this position.
