Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Accessibility

Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Accessibility (EDIA)

Land Acknowledgement

We would like to begin by acknowledging that we are in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kma’ki People and also would like to acknowledge the Indigenous Blacks of Nova Scotia, whose legacy and contributions date back over 400 years.

The Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (EDIA) Committee plays a key role in ensuring the Municipality of the District of Guysborough is an inclusive and accessible community where all individuals - regardless of their ability, background, or identity can fully participate in municipal life. Through continuous advocacy, monitoring, and the development of inclusive policies, the committee will support the Municipality in meeting its commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.

To begin this work, Council appointed members to an Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Accessibility Committee in April 2025. This Committee includes representation from the community and Council with support from staff. The committee advises council on the preparation, implementation and effectiveness of MODG's Accessibility Plan, Equity and Anti-Racism Plan and related Municipal policies.

Sledges now available through MODG Recreation's Equipment Loan Program

A class field trip to Guysborough! If you have seen more school buses on the main street of Guysborough this winter - it’s not just your imagination. Students from across the Strait Regional Centre for Education are visiting us in Guysborough at the outdoor skating facilities at the Chedabucto Lifestyle Complex (CLC).

The Recreation Department stepped up the Municipality’s welcome to students by offering a more inclusive skating experience. Staff purchased sledges through the Equipment Loan Program grant through the Recreation Nova Scotia Inclusion and Accessibility program. We have three sledges of different sizes, as well as the sledge hockey sticks - they are part of our free equipment loan program and can be borrowed anytime at the CLC.
