The Passing of our Former Warden and Dear Friend, the Honourable Lloyd Hines
Yesterday we were both shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of our former Warden, Councillor, MLA and Minister, and Dear Friend, the Honourable Lloyd Hines.
Lloyd spent most of his life dedicated to the people of the Municipality of the District of Guysborough serving on many board and volunteer organizations over the years. In 1982 Lloyd was elected to the first consolidated Guysborough County District School Board where he served until 1986. In 1988 Lloyd was elected to the Council of the Municipality of the District of Guysborough; and, in 1997 he was elected Warden, serving as Warden, or Chair of the Council for 16 of his 25 years in municipal government. In 2013 Lloyd was elected to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly as a member of the Nova Scotia Liberal Party; and in 2015 Lloyd was appointed to the Executive Council of Nova Scotia as Minister of Natural Resources. In 2017 Lloyd was re-elected where he served as Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal until 2021.
Lloyd had many accomplishments during his time in municipal government and his forward-looking thinking shaped our Municipality into the strong, successful community that it is today. His legacy will live on infinitely for the positive impact that Lloyd had on our communities.
Warden Vernon Pitts commented “On behalf of Council and Staff of the Municipality of the District of Guysborough, we offer our deepest condolences to Lloyd’s wife Patricia and his children Shannon, Sarah, Victoria, and Regan as well as his grandchildren, family and friends. Lloyd was deeply respected, and it is with heartfelt grief and a sense of great loss that that we mourn the passing of Lloyd as our leader, colleague, and friend. We will always hold his memory in our hearts!”
