Lyme Disease Awareness Month May 2022

Council did at the May 4th Committee of the Whole meeting, pass the following proclamation to proclaim May 2022, as "Lyme Disease Awareness Month"

With the weather warming up, ticks have arrived for another summer season. Help protect yourself and those around you by educating yourself on ticks and Lyme Disease. Scouts Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada have partnered to bring awareness this May 2022. For more information and excellent education click here

PROCLAMATION
MAY 2022 LYME DISEASE AWARENESS MONTH

WHEREAS Lyme disease is a serious illness caused by the bite of a black-legged
tick infected with the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi;

AND WHEREAS black-legged ticks carrying a variety of diseases or illnesses can now be found in all parts of Nova Scotia; 

AND WHEREAS awareness, education and practicing preventative measures, such as daily tick checks and proper tick removal, can help reduce your chances of contracting tick-borne diseases;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED I Warden Vernon Pitts, on behalf of the Municipality of the District of Guysborough, do hereby proclaim May 2022 as
“Lyme Disease Awareness Month”.
